On the Guided Practice tab, you are able to set up two conditions of playing cards and see the probability of randomly drawing a card that meets those conditions.
The carousel on the left represents the color of the card.
The carousel in the middle represents the card’s suit.
The carousel on the right represents the card’s rank.
Drag a card from any of the carousels into box A to set the first condition.
Drag another card into box B to set the second condition and display the probability of selecting a card that meets these conditions.
The “and” conjunction is selected by default, but you can click on another conjunction from the list to display the probability of drawing a card that meets condition A or condition B, or a card that meets condition A but not condition B. Notice how the different conjunctions change the probability equation.
You can change the conditions by dragging another card into the boxes.
You can click on the Sapling Learning Deck at any time to see which cards meet the given conditions.
Cards that are grey do not meet the given conditions, and cards that are white do meet the conditions. Click on the Deck again to close it.
On the Workspace tab, you are able to set up two conditions of playing cards and calculate the probability of randomly drawing a card that meets those conditions.
Click on each box in the equation to open the keypad.
Use the keypad to enter the number of cards that meet each condition or the intersection.
If you would like to look at a full deck of cards to help determine the values, you can click on the Sapling Learning Deck.
Notice that all of the cards in the deck are white. The cards will not be grayed out until you have determined the correct probability.
After you have entered values into all of the boxes, click “Check” to check your answer. If any of the values you entered are incorrect, an error message will appear and you can click on the box that is incorrect to try again.
When you have correctly determined each value, the total probability of selecting a card that meets the given conditions will be displayed. You can also click on the Sapling Learning Deck to see the cards that meet the given conditions.
Click “Try another” to try another example.
